About Two Outstanding Figures In Algeria

Kateb Yacine was born in the east in August 1920 in Constantine and died on 28 October 1989 in France; unlike Zohra Drif who was born in the west of Algeria on 28 December,1934 in Tiaret, but they share a certain point, they have experienced the monstrosity of the French colonisation in different ways, which is the event who helped both of them to take decisions about taking part in the fight against the French

Kateb Yacine had a struggle between his mom and his French educators who represented a different world with a different language and different culture; it was the a dominating and powerful world, "France". Zohra Drif as a primary-schoolgirl, her relationship with European girl  "Roselyne" was successful, they were besties; so they were equal, or at least .that's what I thought it was

Nonetheless; Yacine and Zohra have experienced a delicate event which changed their way of thinking and made them see the real horrible face of the French and become more aware of their national identity. For Kateb Yacine, the events which took place on 8 May, 1945 in Sétif transformed his life. He took part in the manifestations and was arrested. The time he spent in prison helped him to feel close to the Algerian people and made him mindful of their existence. For Zohra Drif, this event happened in primary school when her best friend Roselyne failed the sixth-grade  exam, whereas Zohra passed it. Roselyne's reaction was so disappointing and hurting; it made Zohra realised that in her friend's eyes she was just an Arab; no more, no less, unlike Zohra; Roselyne was racist a little bit. and those were the most effective events in both of Zohra and Yacine's lifes

Now; after we heard their stories, we can say that these childhood memories of  Kateb Yacine and Zohra Drif  had a vigorous effect on their minds and personalities. Drif became a legendary member Of the FLN and played a practical part in placing bombs. The young radical warrior Kateb Yacine; was taken with nationalist ideas of the Algerian People's Party. He fought France by giving political talks. He also published several novels and plays, like 'Nedjma'in 1956

 Kateb Yacine And His Writings

Those fighting for Algerian independence presented themselves as liberators – as the new army of a sovereign people – a study of the ties that bound them to the civilian population shows that they first and foremost had to be men of honour and remain loyal to the values of the society to which they belonged, and Zohra Drif and Kateb Yacine are ones of those legendary freedom fighters
